TODAY’S MESSAGE

The Feast of Pentecost celebrates God’s presence coming to his people and giving the law. After Jesus’s death, resurrection and ascension to heaven, his disciples and thousands of Jewish people gather in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. It’s been seven weeks since Jesus was crucified during the Passover Feast. And now, God’s presence again descends on Pentecost with a loud sound and fire. The Holy Spirit indwells Jesus’s followers, and God again reveals who he is and who he’s called his people to be. This event fulfills what God had foretold hundreds of years before through the prophet Jeremiah. “’This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33).

As we remain in Jesus and his Word, the Spirit empowers us to live the life God calls us to. As we come to God’s Word each day, we can pause to pray and ask the Spirit to open our hearts and help us understand what we read. After reading Scripture, rather than rushing off to our days, we can again pause and allow the Spirit space to help us absorb what we’ve read. As we reflect on the words, we ask the Spirit to sink them in our minds so we do not walk away and forget (James 1:22-25). The Spirit will bring God’s words to mind as we need them throughout our days, empowering us to grow more like Jesus. Watch this video clip as Pastor Aaron Buer teaches the Spirit’s role in shaping us to become the people God desires us to be.
