TODAY’S MESSAGE

God knows it will be easy for the Israelites to forget. God understands that when they have a few good harvests, they will start to think they did it. They will focus on their recent accomplishments instead of the provision of God in the present and past. One of the reasons God gives them the Feast of Tabernacles is to help them remember where their stuff comes from. When the harvest is complete, it’s a time to intentionally celebrate not just the harvest but the God who brought about the harvest. It’s space to draw their heart to gratitude.

There’s something about the Feast of Tabernacles that prompts us to remember where our stuff comes from. Like the Israelites, it can be easy for us to forget God’s role. The part God plays is often larger than what we tend to acknowledge. There are simple things like being able to get out of bed in the morning, to think clearly or even to talk. These are all good gifts from God. Gifts that we can take for granted. There are so many more ways God takes care of us and sustains us. The Feast of Tabernacles helps us remember to thank God, even for the small things.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Take out your journal or use the notes app to create a list of the things you’ve been able to complete this year. Next to each item, capture as many aspects of God’s part in making those things happen. Include big and small ways God provided. When you’re done, read through the list again and thank God for what he’s done for you.
