Beyond the Weekend

December 21 | Jesus as Priest

December 21, 2022

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

Read: Leviticus 9:1-8
Listen:
Leviticus 9

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God created Adam and Eve for a relationship with him. But their decision to disobey broke that relationship and created a sin barrier. That’s where a priest comes in. A priest mediates between God and people. They take the sacrifices from the people and offer them to God. Because of the sin barrier, priests are religious leaders necessary as a go-between for God and people. Thankfully, Jesus is the ultimate priest. He perfectly fills the role of mediator between God and people. He not only serves as priest but also as the sacrifice. His death on the cross gives us access to God through Jesus.

The writer of Hebrews takes Jesus as priest and adds a new dimension. We are reminded that not only is Jesus the perfect priest, but he’s a priest who knows what we’re going through. Jesus actually lived a human life and can empathize with our experiences. Jesus’s priesthood isn’t just a transactional role but is also deeply relational. Jesus is a priest who loves us and cares for us.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Thank Jesus for being the ultimate priest. Thank him for dying on the cross for your sins and mediating with God for you.
