TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

… and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. Philippians 3:9

Read: Philippians 3:9-11
Listen:
Philippians 3

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Throughout this series, we’ve looked at two truths about the Gospel: Our sin is worse than we like to admit, but God’s grace is better than we can imagine. Paul helps the Philippian church understand this by telling them that righteousness—a right standing with God—only comes through Christ. Some in the Philippian church taught that righteousness comes through the law and Christ. But Paul reminds this church that nothing outside Christ is needed for salvation. Christ came to fulfill all Jewish law, lived a sinless life and is fully sufficient for salvation.

This is true for us today. Whether we’re new Christians or seasoned believers—we can never be righteous on our own. We may even sabotage the Gospel more than we’d like to admit. We’re more messed up and sinful than we think, but God’s grace is even better than anything we can possibly imagine. We can’t get ourselves out of this mess on our own. Only Christ saves. When we live into this truth, our freedom comes from not adding anything to it through our efforts or additions.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Listen to the song “In Christ Alone.” Reflect on these words and remember the GOSPEL CHANGE in you. “In Christ alone who took on flesh, the fullness of God in helpless babe. This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save.”
