TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus is what God has to say to the world. If we’re exploring Christianity, the place to start is the person of Jesus. Christianity is about following Jesus and having a relationship with him. But to follow him, we have to know who he is. Throughout the Gospels—the first four books of the New Testament, which are biographies of his life—Jesus reveals who he is. All that he does and says points to the truth that Jesus is God-in-flesh who came to forgive sins so people could turn to him and be welcomed into God’s presence. That is the good news.

The world views Jesus as just a moral teacher with good things to say. Unfortunately, churches and Christians through the ages have sometimes misrepresented who he is. Views of Jesus can vary based on where we grew up, our upbringing or our friends’ thoughts. To honestly know Jesus, we have to look to the Bible. We read his teachings, look at his miracles and consider how people responded in his day. This week we will look at four aspects of Jesus and how they impact our understanding of who he is and what it means to follow him. As we look to the source, God’s Word, we find Jesus is the best news ever.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

John Dickson’s book A Doubter’s Guide to Jesus is an excellent resource to help understand what the Bible says about Jesus and who he is. Consider picking up a copy (Baker Book House or Amazon) to help you deepen your understanding of the Good News about Jesus as told in Scripture.

2023 SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

Join us all of 2023 developing a different spiritual practice each month. SPIRITUAL PRACTICES are intentional regular activities to deepen our relationship with God and mold us to be more like Jesus.

April is CONFESSION. Keep track of our spiritual practices at beyondtheweekend.org/spiritualpractices.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES TIP. We don’t have to go it alone. The Bible teaches there can be power in confessing our sin to another trusted, mature believer and having them pray for us (James 5:16). Ask God to show you who could come alongside you so you could safely confess a struggle with sin and ask for prayer in it.
