TODAY’S MESSAGE
People have wondered what God is like throughout the world and human history. Having vastly different experiences means coming to vastly different conclusions. Some think God is only a god of prosperity who wants to bless. Others are angry at him for allowing heartache in their lives. Everyone is tempted to craft a specific image of God based on their experiences, culture and preferences. Without a clear picture of who God is, it isn’t surprising to see all these distorted images. However, there is a clear picture—and that picture is Jesus.
We aren’t at liberty to make God into the image we want. He has made himself known on his terms through Jesus. Jesus says that before “Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The claim that he shares the nature and name of God is what got him killed. This helps us understand why he’s a teacher, healer and Savior. He is worthy of being followed because he is God. Christ’s life clarifies the character and intentions of God our Creator. What you see with Jesus is what you get with God.
IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
Jesus is at the center of Christianity, and his most significant claim is that he is God. This holds major implications for our lives. Pray and ask God to reveal any areas of your life that you need to move toward Jesus as your teacher, healer, Savior and God. Write down anything he reveals and share it with a trusted friend who can pray for you in that area.
