TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17

Read: Mark 2:17
Listen:
Mark 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The Pharisees can’t believe Jesus would hang out with sinners and tax collectors. But Jesus’s mission is clear—he’s here precisely for the sinners. He’s here for the people who need help, not those who think they have it all figured out. Jesus’s point is brilliant. A doctor can’t help a patient who won’t ask for it. Jesus came for those patients seeking help, and he’s even willing to go looking for them. Jesus knows people are guilty before God. The Bible makes it clear that the sin of humankind has caused a separation between God and people. It’s a brokenness that people can’t fix on their own. That’s why Jesus came. His death and resurrection defeated death. Jesus offers forgiveness of sins for those who accept the good news of Jesus. It’s what makes it good news.

We don’t like to use the words sin or guilt today. People think they sound judgmental. Our culture tells us we don’t need help, or if we do, we can figure it out on our own. But the good news of Jesus tells us otherwise. We are sinners in need of a savior. We haven’t always done the right things, and we can’t fix our relationship with God on our own. Thankfully, Jesus offers forgiveness. He offers hope. He offers a restored relationship with God that promises us real life.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Accept the forgiveness Jesus offers. Jesus loves you, died for you and wants a relationship with you. If you’ve never accepted the good news of Jesus, we’d love to have a conversation with you. Email us at btw@adabible.org. If you’ve already accepted Jesus’s forgiveness, one regular response is worship and gratitude. Sing with us today the song, “There is a Savior,” to worship our great God.
