Colossians 3.1-17

This past weekend, guest speaker John Dickson told us the way to change the world around us is through prayer, serving (godly action), and talking (winsome conversation). Paul instructs the Jesus community in Colossae to do these things in chapter four.

There is a direct connection between godly action and winsome conversation to the instructions of Paul in chapter three. Take a moment to read through Colossians 3.1-17. Here, Paul instructs the believers to put to death certain actions and to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. No wonder Paul expected unbelievers to ask the Jesus followers about their lives (Colossians 4.6).

If a group of people became known for being compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient, they would stand out not only in the first century, but also today.

As we consider our motivation for changing the world around us so others can come to know the Christ, take a moment to reflect on our worship services this past weekend. Watch this video of the song “Found in You” by Vertical Church to draw our hearts back to the centrality of Christ in our lives.
