TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus and his disciples return to Jerusalem on Tuesday as tensions continue to rise. They pass the fig tree Jesus condemned the day before, and Peter notices the tree is now dead. Jesus responds with a puzzling command to believe, pray and forgive. Jesus points to what’s next. He’s replacing the temple with a community of people praying together marked by faith and forgiveness.

Jesus’s words to pray, have faith and forgive are for us too. The Apostle Paul echoes Jesus’s teaching by saying all who follow Jesus are now God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). Whether family, friends or a small group, joining with other believers is the space for God’s Spirit to dwell. Jesus also points to what can hinder our prayers—questioning God’s power to do something and holding a grudge against a fellow believer. He holds these in high regard because we are now his house of prayer.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Reach out to someone in your Christian community and ask how you can pray for them. There is great power in praying together whether it’s one friend or a small group. If you don’t have a Christian community to pray with, we’d love to help you connect with a small group to journey with you. Please email us at btw@adabible.org.
