July 19 | Cast Your Cares

July 19, 2023

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Read: 1 Peter 5:6-9
Listen: 1 Peter 5

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Peter is one of the disciples who comes down the mountain with Jesus and sees the entire encounter between Jesus and the demon-possessed boy. Peter knew about Jesus’s compassionate touch and care. Peter knew that Jesus cared because Peter witnessed Jesus’s mercy in action. And so, when Peter writes, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7), we know such instruction is rooted in Peter’s own transformative encounters with Jesus.

We see similar instructions in Paul’s letter to the Philippians, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). This doesn’t mean we won’t have concerns. But instead of getting stuck in our difficulties, we can train ourselves to bring them to God. We do this when we capture our thoughts and redirect them to God and his matchless care.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Memorize 1 Peter 5:7. Take this verse with you throughout your day and the rest of this week. Whenever you feel yourself tempted with worry, recite this verse and put it into practice. Ask God for help and provision concerning whatever you are worried about. Battle worry today with the truth of who God is and how much he cares for you.
