TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The LORD be with you!” “The LORD bless you!” they answered. Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young woman belong to?” Ruth 2:4-5

Read: Ruth 2:4-5
Listen: Ruth 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Boaz was a man of faith. This is seen when he greets his workers and shows concern for someone gleaning in his field. In other words, one sees Boaz’s faithfulness evident through his actions, particularly his care for others. Boaz’s life shows that genuine faith leads to faithful service, as a heart for God is directly linked with a heart for the well-being of others. In fact, compassion and serving are repeated themes throughout the Bible and the life and teachings of Jesus.

Growing as Jesus-followers means we grow in increasing desire and commitment to help others. Helping reflects the heart of our compassionate God. What’s more, God gave us gifts and abilities to help our neighbors, the church and the world. The most influential and impactful lives are those offered for the benefit of others. God created us to help others, and we flourish more fully when we act on opportunities to do so.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Think about ways you can bless others today. Maybe it is a way to help your spouse, children, coworkers or roommate. Perhaps someone near you needs your care in a specific way. Make a list of needs close to you and take one step toward meeting several of the needs over the next days.
